Press conference of Shri KR Shah
Korba (Public Forum). KR Shah, the state president of the Chhattisgarh Tribal Development Council, has expressed concerns that the Modi government intends to replace the current constitution with an authoritarian regime. He believes that India’s constitution and democracy are in jeopardy and that all social organizations must vocally step forward to protect them.
Mr. Shah stated that the Modi government is essentially a corporate government, which has become a puppet in the hands of industrialists. He emphasized that the fundamental and constitutional rights of tribals to their water, forests, and land are under significant threat. Referring to the 2023 amendments to the Forest Rights Act, he mentioned that these changes could allow land acquisition in the Fifth and Sixth Schedule areas without the consent of the Gram Sabha.
The Tribal Development Council leader, Mr. Shah, warned that the country is rapidly moving towards despotism. Autonomous institutions are under complete government control, and the media is being prevented from functioning independently. He expressed concern over land acquisitions in Sarguja and Bastar, stating that if the Modi government returns to power, these lands will be handed over to industrialists.
Tribal leader KR Shah declared that the current Lok Sabha elections are crucial for preserving the existence of tribals. He called upon all civil society organizations to raise their voices for social justice and prevent the Modi government from regaining power. Senior tribal leaders KR Raj and SP Markam, along with other members of the Tribal Development Council, were present at the press conference.
