Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (Balco), a Vedanta Group company, has extended health benefits to around 3.3 lakh people through its community health projects and hospital during the financial year 2024 on the occasion of World Health Day. The company is serving the community by providing high-quality healthcare services. Encouraging the adoption of preventive healthcare, the company has provided therapeutic healthcare services to the community. Aligning with this year’s theme “My Health, My Right”, the company has made a significant contribution in the healthcare sector.
The company has launched an assistive device distribution campaign to create an inclusive, supportive, and equitable community by distributing assistive devices (walking sticks, tripods, crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs) to 34 elderly and specially-abled people.
Balco organized two-day multi-specialty mega health camps in Bhadrapara and Belakacchar. The mega camps aimed to provide primary healthcare services to the community, where treatment for various diseases and free medicines were provided. The camps included specialist services like dentistry, dermatology, orthopedics, gynecology, physiotherapy, and general practitioners, along with diagnostic tests for diabetes and hypertension. The community members were provided with primary and specialized healthcare services through free medical treatment. Approximately 479 citizens benefited from the camps.
Furthering the company’s health and welfare commitment, the Mobile Health Van (MHV) ‘Upchar Aapke Dwar’ provides primary healthcare services to the community. Through its counseling services, the van is serving more than 47 communities with healthcare. The van is equipped with facilities to provide free medicines and consultation, and screening for common illnesses, including diabetes and hypertension, to the needy.
Balco’s Aarogya project is focused on healthcare and community service. The company provides healthcare services, including preventive and curative measures, through rural health posts to enhance healthcare facilities for the community. The project also runs awareness campaigns on maternal and child care, HIV, TB, and de-addiction, with a special focus on addressing malnutrition and anemia. In the financial year 2024, approximately 49,963 people have benefited from the Aarogya project.
The company’s new Kiran project creates awareness about menstrual health management and sanitation. It promotes the manufacturing of sanitary products and has developed local champions for menstrual health. The project has sensitized more than 57,386 community members on menstruation.
Through its Nandghar, the company functions as a modern center for women and child development, providing quality healthcare and proper nutrition to young children, pregnant women, and new mothers.
Balco Hospital, with a 120-bed capacity and a team of skilled medical specialists, offers state-of-the-art facilities, including a modular OT, advanced CT scan and X-ray rooms, and an emergency and critical care unit, to cater to the healthcare needs of the community. As an ISO 9001-2015 certified facility, the hospital provides better clinical quality management. In the financial year 2024, the hospital provided healthcare services to 183,985 people.
Balco Medical Center (BMC), a 170-bed ultra-modern cancer hospital located in New Raipur, is a flagship initiative of the Vedanta Medical Research Foundation (VMRF), a non-profit organization of Vedanta Resources and Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (Balco). BMC has emerged as a national identity in the cancer domain in India. The hospital provides medical, surgical, radiation, hematological, BAMT, and palliative care services. In the financial year 2024, Balco Medical Center treated 11,375 people.
Approximately 1.8 lakh people are benefiting from the Balco Hospital operated by the company. Additionally, through its community development programs, Balco is reaching out to more than 1.5 lakh people annually across 123 villages in four districts of Chhattisgarh – Korba, Kawardha, Surguja, and Raipur.
